I can't count the times I have screamed along to "you ain't gotta pray for me" in my car in the past year alone! I love this breakdown, and I love how you reframe the "he" in the romantic narrative. I like to think that Taylor was commenting just a little bit on the problematic aspects of religious communities, or at least using them metaphorically.

I'm OBSESSED with this. It might be my favorite thing you've written because 1) Taylor DUH and 2) I didn't know being obsessed with song lyrics this strongly was an autistic quality and now that truly makes sense. It's so relatable.

When I heard "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me" I immediately thought of the church versus me, a "witch" post-Mormon figure. I can't explain it (but hope to write about it someday) but I felt it so hard in my bones.

Omg thank you so much, that is so kind of you to say it's your fave!!! And isn't that crazy that obsession with song lyrics can be a sign of autism in girls/women? I truly was like-OH. Okay. My entire life makes way more sense now, hahaha.

I need YOUR analysis of "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me" now, hehe. I loveeee that one, too. So good.

Love your deep dive, Ashley! The lyric I come back to over and over again is “I’ll tell you something bout my good name/ It’s mine alone to disgrace”. The sense of ownership over my own life after leaving is incredible and so freeing.

This is so good. I love deep diving into her lyrics! It’s one of my favorite forms of escapism. And this song hits hard when comparing it to deconstructing. Would love to read more like this!!
